The Transfiguration Monastery stands in the village of Halaykivtsi in the Vinnytsia region. Monastic life on this spot is older than the present house: in the eighteenth century a Uniate monastery existed at Halaykivtsi, closed for poverty in 17451.
A century and a half later the place was still remembered. In 1891 the Podolian historian Yukhym Sitsinskyi wrote that the site was still called the monastery: a hill above the river Zhvan at the end of the village, its summit covered with ruts and ditches, the traces of a rampart and a stone wall with two opposite gateways still visible, and many moss-covered crosses and stones from the former buildings lying in the ground1.
New monastic life began here in 2000, when a Transfiguration skete of the Sharhorod monastery started to operate in the village1.
On 24 November 2009 the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, having heard the report of the ruling bishop, blessed the opening of the Saviour-Transfiguration monastery for men in the village of Halaykivtsi - journal No. 69 of that session2. The skete became an independent monastery1.
