Monastic Herald of Ukraine is the official information resource of the Synodal Commission for Monasteries of Ukrainian Orthodox Church. It brings together information about UOC monasteries from every eparchy, so that anyone looking for the way to one of them can find it quickly and without unnecessary trouble. The resource has existed since 2015 and has run on the domain inok.info since 2018.
Our aim is to preserve and share reliable information about the monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, to keep monasteries and laypeople connected, and to let those who cannot travel in person pray together with the brethren. To do this, we have brought together on one site a directory, a map, live broadcasts of services, and publications about monastic life.
The site is used by pilgrims preparing for a trip to a monastery; elderly and unwell people, for whom the broadcast is the only way to be present at a service; Ukrainians abroad and soldiers separated from their home churches; and researchers and anyone interested in monasticism in Ukraine. Each of them finds here what they need: a monastery's address, the time of a service, or a way to join in prayer from home.
Over 300 male and female UOC monasteries from every eparchy of Ukraine — from small sketes to large lavra monasteries. Each entry gives the full name, eparchy, postal address, the name of the superior, and photographs. The data is verified against reports from the monasteries and updated as new information arrives.
An interactive map for the journey: you can find a monastery by region or eparchy, see its location, and plot a route there. It is convenient to use right on the road, from a phone.
Live broadcasts of services from UOC monasteries and churches. The service brings together streams from the monasteries' official channels in one place: the Divine Liturgy, vespers, or an all-night vigil can all be seen on a single page, without having to search for each channel separately. Video plays directly on the site, without leaving for outside resources. This is especially needed by elderly and unwell people, people with limited mobility, soldiers, and Ukrainians who are far from home.
Publications on the history of monasticism, lives of ascetics, and official documents of the Synodal Commission — decisions, directives, and announcements for UOC monasteries.
Our broadcasts, on your site. We give the list of live UOC services free and without registration to any parish, diocesan or monastery website: one line of code and the block works. How to do it is on the API page.
The resource is created and maintained by the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (male monastery) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church — a non-profit religious organization, EDRPOU code 14351528. The site has no commercial purpose and carries no advertising. Full details and contacts are on the «Contact us» page. More about us is on the «About Commission» page.
