St. Vladimir the Priest-Martyr's Monastery

The monastery for men dedicated to the hieromartyr Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv, is at Kryvyi Rih, in the Dnipropetrovsk region^{1, 3}.

The community took shape in 1994-1996 at the church of the Dormition in the town of Verkhnodniprovsk, with the blessing of Archbishop Irenei of Dnipropetrovsk and Kryvyi Rih^{1, 3}. In 1996 the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church gave its blessing for a monastery dedicated to the hieromartyr Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv, to open at that church³. The Kryvyi Rih eparchy was formed in the same year, and in 1997 the house was moved to Kryvyi Rih; as of that year it had a house church of the hieromartyr Volodymyr and a skete of the Protection of the Mother of God in the village of Vesele near the city^{1, 3}.

In 1999 the complex of buildings of the former city dispensary was handed to the monastery, and the house moved into it^{1, 3}. Its main building had been put up in 1916 at the expense of a philanthropist, Halkovsky, as a shelter for the poor, and in the Soviet period a city hospital was housed there³. The hospital wards were rebuilt as monastic cells, a house church was fitted out, a monastery bell tower was added to it, and a sacristy, a Sunday school, a library and a refectory were built, with the grounds - five and a half hectares of them - laid out^{1, 3}.

For the patronal feast of the house, on 7 February 1998, Bishop Yefrem of Kryvyi Rih and Nikopol consecrated the house church of the hieromartyr Volodymyr, Metropolitan of Kyiv³. On 8 April 2008 the site was consecrated for the building of the house's main church, dedicated to the Dormition of the Mother of God^{1, 3}.

The appointed services are celebrated daily in the house³. The brethren give pastoral care to people in places of detention and in children's homes, and work with pupils in the city's schools³. The patronal feasts of the monastery are the Dormition of the Mother of God, 15 (28) August, and the days of the hieromartyr Volodymyr (Bohoiavlensky), Metropolitan of Kyiv, 25 January (7 February) and 14 (27) June².
