The monastery for men dedicated to the Kazan icon of the Mother of God stands at the Kypiache tract near the town of Chopovychi, in the Zhytomyr region, beside a spring2, 3. Local tradition connects the name of the tract with that spring: the water in it, tradition says, once seemed to come to the boil, and the place took its name from that2, 3.
The house that stood here before the revolution is described differently by different sources. The Zhytomyr regional tourist information centre dates the founding of a Transfiguration monastery to 1917 and records that a small wooden church of the Beheading of John the Baptist was built a little above the spring2. The Ovruch eparchy ascribes the founding of the house to Archbishop Antonii (Khrapovytsky) of Volyn, and on 21 July 2018 marked 100 years since its founding at the monastery1. The official historical note of the Chopovychi community calls the house a monastery of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra dedicated to the Beheading of John the Baptist3.
Under Soviet rule the monastery ceased to exist, and the accounts of when it perished differ as well: the community's note says the house was burned at the end of the 1920s, the tourist centre that it operated until 1934 and was destroyed then2, 3.
In 2002 the monastery resumed its existence by a resolution of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - by then with its present dedication, to the Kazan icon of the Mother of God2.
