A Russian drone attack overnight into 28 January 2026 damaged the Odesa Holy Dormition Monastery in Odesa's Kyivskyi district. The Odesa eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) said that windows had been blown out in the churches; that the cathedral church in honour of the icon of the Mother of God "Life-Giving Spring" and the cemetery were among the places damaged; that the dairy workshop and the farmyard were hit; and that the greenhouse was destroyed.
Hromadske, citing the eparchy, adds that stained-glass windows were blown out in the cathedral church, and that in the greenhouse the boiler room was smashed and the heating system destroyed.
Hromadske writes, citing the State Emergency Service (SES) in Odesa region, that the strikes set buildings of the monastery on fire; a repeat air-raid alert hindered the firefighting, but rescuers dealt with the aftermath of the attack. According to the eparchy, SES crews spent the whole night eliminating the consequences of the fire on the monastery grounds.
Reports on the injured differ. The eparchy named one wounded seminarian, who was taken to hospital, and added that no one was killed. The monastery's dean, quoted by Ukrinform, spoke of a seminarian with shrapnel wounds and of three more injured mentors of the monastery. Glavcom's report said that no one was injured.
