The press service of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary reported that the celebrations marking the start of the 2026/2027 academic year at the Kyiv theological schools were held on 1 September 2026. The service took place at the Golosiivo Protection of the Mother of God Monastery in Kyiv, where the Divine Liturgy in the church of the icon of the Mother of God “The Life-giving Spring” was led by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine.
According to the Synodal Information and Education Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, students of the two theological institutions that work on the monastery’s grounds prayed at the service: the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, and the Monastery Theological and Vocational School of St John of Damascus.
The academy’s press service said that concelebrating with the Primate were the abbot of the monastery, Archbishop Isaakiy of Vorzel, the rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Sylvestr of Bilhorod, and other bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, together with teachers of the theological schools in holy orders and the clergy of the monastery. The sermon after the communion verse was preached by one of the teachers, Hieromonk Amvrosiy (Nebronchuk).
Special petitions for peace in Ukraine and a prayer for those beginning the new academic year were offered at the augmented litany, and after the Liturgy Metropolitan Onufriy led a moleben for the start of the academic year, according to the reports of the academy and of the Synodal Information and Education Department.
