In the village of Verkhniy Tokmak, Chernihiv District, Zaporizhzhia Region, St. Michael the Archangel's Convent appeared in 2008: the Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, on the report of Bishop Yelysei of Berdiansk and Prymorsk, blessed the opening of St. Michael's Convent in this village1. The community was set up at a church that had stood there since the nineteenth century2.
In that same church, in the mid-1950s, served the future Archimandrite Seraphim (Tyapochkin), who came to be venerated as the elder of Belgorod. Having returned from exile in 1955, he was assigned to serve in the village of Verkhniy Tokmak, then part of the Dnipropetrovsk diocese, and by early 1960 he already headed the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Dnipropetrovsk3.
