"Unexpected Joy" Icon of the Mother of God Monastery

The "Unexpected Joy" Icon of the Mother of God Monastery stands in the Kvasovets tract near the village of Kolochava in the Zakarpattia region. The house was founded in 2002; that same year a chapel of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon was built there¹. In 2002-2006 a wooden church of the "Unexpected Joy" Icon of the Mother of God was built at the monastery¹.

Among the holy things of the monastery are icons of the Venerable Confessors Alexis of Carpathian Rus and Job of Uhol with particles of their relics². The monastery keeps three patronal feasts - in honour of the "Unexpected Joy" icon, of All Saints, and of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon³.

The patronal feast of the "Unexpected Joy" icon was led by the ruling hierarch of the Khust eparchy on 22 December of 2019 and 2023^{4, 5}, and the feast of All Saints on 30 June 2024⁶. In 2019 the service was accompanied by the singing of a local choir made up of the monastery's own parishioners⁴.

On the patronal feast of the Great Martyr and Healer Panteleimon, 9 August, a cross procession is traditionally held around the church at the monastery; this was reported in 2018 and 2019^{7, 8}.
