St. Barbara the Great Martyr's Convent

The convent in honour of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara stands in the town of Kaharlyk in the Kyiv region. The house arose on the site of a parish of the same dedication¹; the parish church of the Great Martyr Barbara in Kaharlyk itself was visited by the ruling bishop of Bila Tserkva Diocese as early as 25 August 2012³.

The opening of the convent was blessed by the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at its session of 15 March 2013, by journal No. 30. By the same journal the Synod blessed the registration of the statute of the house, which was opened as stauropegial¹.

The house was stauropegial for two years. On 1 April 2015 the Synod, by journal No. 7, resolved to abolish the stauropegia of the convent, to transfer it to the subordination and canonical governance of the diocesan bishop of Bila Tserkva Diocese, to change the name of the house accordingly and to introduce amendments and additions to its statute².

On the eve of the patronal feast in December 2016 church bells were consecrated and installed at the convent⁴. The house has a cemetery of its own: in it was buried the priest of the monastery, Archpriest Vasyl Marunchak, who served here as the monastery's priest at the patronal feast of 2024¹¹ and died suddenly on 26 April 2026¹⁵.

From 2016 to 2025 the patronal feast of the house was led by the ruling bishop of Bila Tserkva Diocese; the diocese's press service described these services at least nine times^{4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13}. On the Monday of Bright Week of 2025 and 2026 the bishop celebrated the Divine Liturgy with a cross procession at the convent^{12, 14}.
