Ascension female skete

The Ascension convent skete stands in the city of Odesa and is a skete of the Archangel Michael convent of Odesa¹.

The skete was opened by a decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of 26 January 2012. On that day the Synod, presided over by Metropolitan Agafangel of Odesa and Izmail, heard his own report on the opening of the Ascension skete of the Archangel Michael convent in the city of Odesa and resolved to bless that opening - Journal No. 14¹. By the preceding journal of the same session the Synod blessed the opening of a second skete of the same house, of the Nativity of the Mother of God, in the Odesa region¹.

The skete's mother house is one of the oldest convents of Odesa². In 1835 the governor-general count Mikhail Vorontsov built, on waste ground by the sea at the edge of the city, a church in honour of his heavenly patron the Archangel Michael, and in 1840 the Holy Synod resolved to found a convent at that church².
