Transfiguration male skete

The Transfiguration male skete of Inkerman St. Clement's Monastery stands in the village of Ternivka in Crimea, in the forest tract of Ay-Todor near Sevastopol^{1, 2}. The monastery that had earlier stood on this site ended its history in 1475: after the Ottoman Turks captured the Principality of Theodoro, the community was plundered and its monks dispersed^{1, 2, 4}.

In 1868, by order of Emperor Alexander II, the forest lands of the Ay-Todor tract were granted to Inkerman St. Clement's Monastery as a country residence for its superior, adding them to the monastery's arable land in the Inkerman valley^{1, 2, 4}.

Through the monks' efforts a church in honour of St. Theodore was built on this forest estate^{1, 2, 4}; according to one source, it was built in 1909⁴. The church stood until 1925, when it was destroyed under Soviet rule, and the tract's name, Monastyrska Balka (Monastery Ravine), has stayed on maps ever since^{1, 2, 3, 4}.

In the summer of 1996, through the efforts of Archimandrite Augustin, the revival of the skete began: an altar was consecrated in honour of St. Cassian of Uglich^{1, 2, 4}.
