St. John the Theologian's female skete

St John the Theologian's female skete belongs to the Krasnogirskiy Protection of the Mother of God Convent and stands two kilometres from it^{1, 5, 6}. The convent itself lies in the village of Bakayivka in the Zolotonosha district of the Cherkasy region², not far from the town of Zolotonosha³.

The skete was founded in 1871 to house an eparchial girls' school^{1, 3}. The school had three classes, and its pupils were children of the clergy and orphans³. It opened in 1874, and in the same year a wooden house church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian was arranged at it¹.

In the 1920s the Soviet authorities took the skete away from the convent^{1, 3}.

In 2003 the skete was revived and its lands were returned to the monastic community^{1, 3}. A house church of St Sophronius of Irkutsk was arranged in the repaired block¹.

Monastic life was afterwards restored at the skete, and a new church of the Holy Apostle John the Theologian, a pilgrims' hostel and a sisters' block were built there, together with a monastery farm³.

The skete's principal patronal feast is the day of remembrance of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian; in 2021, 2022 and 2023 it was led by hierarchs of the Cherkasy eparchy^{4, 5, 6, 7}.

These services ended with a rite of praise before the church's own icon and a procession around the skete's cathedral church^{4, 5, 6}.
