On 21 February 2026 a member of the Ukrainian parliament published on his Facebook page a video address announcing his intention to have the brethren of the Myltsi St. Nicholas's Monastery in Volyn evicted when the lease of the buildings expired. In the same address he stated his intention to hand the house to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and reported talks with its head and with its representatives in the region. The community stated that its presence in the monastery is lawful and that it is ready to defend its rights by legal means.
On 19 March 2026 the same deputy reported meetings in northern Volyn at which, he said, the prospects of the house after its transfer to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine were discussed, together with its future as a centre of pilgrimage. Among those he met he named the mayor of Kovel, the heads of the district administration and the district council, the head of one rural hromada, and clergy of that church.
On 4 July 2026 the Volyn Regional Military Administration filed a claim with the Commercial Court of the Volyn Region for the eviction of representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the monastery premises. The stated ground is the expiry, on 1 January 2026, of the agreement on the use of the buildings; all the buildings of the complex are in state ownership. The case has not been decided, and the monastic community remains in the house.
