"Life-Bearing Well" Icon of the Mother of God Monastery

The men's monastery in honour of the "Life-Bearing Well" icon of the Mother of God stands in the town of Boryspil in the Kyiv region and belongs to the Boryspil Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church².

The house was opened by a decision of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of 18 April 2008. Journal No. 15 of that session records the report of the Primate, Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, on the opening of a men's monastery in honour of the "Life-Bearing Well" icon of the Mother of God in the town of Boryspil of the Kyiv region, and the resolution to bless that opening¹.

Of its own founding the monastery says the same - the decision of the Holy Synod of 18 April 2008 - and adds the single detail of its arrangement: the house is accommodated in a small adapted building³.

Among the holy things listed by the monastery's own website are a reliquary with the relics of Saints Kuksha of Odesa, Job of Uhol and Oleksiy of Carpathian Rus, and particles of the relics of the Hieromartyr Cyprian and the Martyr Justina and of Saint Luke of Crimea⁴.

The liturgical day at the monastery begins at 06:00 with the midnight office, the hours are read at 06:40 and the Divine Liturgy is served at 07:00; on Sundays and the twelve great feasts the Liturgy at 09:00 is preceded by the midnight office at 07:00, an akathist at 08:00 and the hours at 08:40⁵.

Moliebens at the house are served in alternate weeks. On Tuesday at 18:00 a molieben for the health of those suffering from cancer is served before the "Vsetsaritsa" icon of the Mother of God, and on Wednesday at 18:00 either a water-blessing molieben with an akathist before the "Life-Bearing Well" icon of the Mother of God, to which the monastery is dedicated, or a water-blessing molieben with an akathist to the Hieromartyr Cyprian and the Martyr Justina⁵.

A Sunday school for children works at the monastery in two groups: a junior one, for ages 5-10, meeting every Sunday at 14:00, and a senior one, for ages 10-16, at 15:00⁶. With the blessing of the ruling bishop, free Orthodox catechism courses for laypeople are also held here⁷.

In the days of the Nativity in 2017 the brethren of the monastery visited children with disabilities at the rehabilitation institution "Nash Dim", told them about the feast of the Nativity of Christ, sang carols and shchedrivky together with them, and gave presents to the children of the establishment⁸.

On 18 March 2020, when the Ukrainian Orthodox Church joined the nationwide measures against the coronavirus epidemic, the brethren of the house served the molieben "In time of a destructive pestilence and deadly infection" and then drove around Boryspil with the "Life-Bearing Well" icon of the Mother of God, blessing every entrance to the town with the cross and the icon and sprinkling them with holy water⁹.
