Annunciation Monastery

The community stands in the Bortnychi microdistrict of the Darnytskyi district of Kyiv and belongs to the North-Eastern deanery of the city⁴.

At the end of 1999 the building of a church of the Annunciation began here, and from 5 February 2000 services were celebrated in the newly raised church in honour of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Mother of God³. In 2000-2001, on the site of the present community, a parish church of the Venerable Martyr Paraskeva and a first cell block were built, and a well of St Paraskeva was dug in front of the church².

In 2005 the parish was transformed into a monastery². On 10 November of that year the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, by journal no. 22 and on the proposal of the Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine, blessed the opening of a men's monastery in honour of the Annunciation of the Mother of God in the city of Kyiv¹. Later a second block with a cross-church was raised².

In 2006, on the monastery's second plot of land, a site was consecrated for the building of a cathedral of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Mother of God, which is to become the centre of a wider complex; building on that plot began in 2007².
