Resurrection Monastery

The Uzhhorod monastery of the Resurrection began in an adapted site trailer: that, by the monastery's own account, is where its first services were held after the community was founded in 2001¹. On 23 April 2002 the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church blessed the opening of the monastery¹. The community stands on Zolotysta Street in Uzhhorod and belongs to the Mukachevo eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church².

The masonry church of the Resurrection of Christ was built in 2002-2003, and the winter church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in 2004-2006¹. Both churches can be read off the list of feasts the monastery keeps: Pascha, the Annunciation on 25 March (7 April), and the commemoration of the Iveron icon of the Mother of God on Bright Tuesday³.

The patronal feast is kept on the third day of Pascha, and the eparchy's own reports call this a tradition: on 14 April 2015 the ruling bishop led the festal Liturgy with more than forty clergy concelebrating, and afterwards a procession went around the monastery with the reading of the Gospel⁶; on 10 April 2018 more than fifty clergy concelebrated, the monastery choir sang, and the monk Luka (Tomyshynets) of this community was ordained hierodeacon⁷; on 30 April 2019 the feast again gathered more than fifty clergy⁸.

The monastery is known in Uzhhorod for its hospitality. In July 2018 the national boxing teams of Ukraine and the Czech Republic came here: the superior of the community, who also heads the eparchy's pilgrimage department, showed the guests around the monastery and invited them to a monastery lunch⁹. On 4 July 2023 the community received the clients of the Uzhhorod city territorial centre of social services - a monk of the monastery gave them a tour and served a moleben, after which the guests were likewise invited to the monastery table¹⁰. And for Maslyana in 2020 the monastery invited all comers: after the Sunday service, at eleven o'clock, the brethren served pancakes to the faithful¹¹.

The daily round of services is fixed: on Sundays the Liturgy at half past eight and vespers and matins at five in the afternoon; on weekdays the Liturgy at seven in the morning and the evening service at the same five⁴. In the Mukachevo eparchy's own list of its monasteries, compiled in 2013, this community stands first among the men's houses - with its Uzhhorod address ⁵.
