Holy Trinity Convent

The Holy Trinity Convent stands in the village of Vilkhivtsi in the Tyachiv district of the Zakarpattia region, and belongs to the Hust eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church^{3, 4, 6}. The eparchy itself was created by the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on 29 July 1994, when it was separated from the Mukachevo eparchy and six districts were assigned to it, the Tyachiv district among them⁵. In its own list of monasteries the eparchy calls the house Vilkhivskyi, the adjective formed from the village's name⁶.

A source on the history of the monasteries of south-eastern Zakarpattia, the "Списание обителей Мараморошских", compiled about 1749, records that the monastery at Vilkhivtsi was founded about 1708 on the initiative of the priest Ioann Zubrytskyi, who afterwards became a monk himself¹.

While the house was being built, the protopope Dymytrii Feodorovych served at Vilkhivtsi; after his wife's death he took monastic vows under the name Dosyfei. Dosyfei later became a bishop - the history the house itself publishes calls him the last Orthodox bishop of Maramorosh in the eighteenth century - and afterwards stayed at the Vilkhivtsi monastery on many occasions¹.

In 1788 the monastery was suppressed¹.

The revival of the house began in 2001. In 2004 the site was consecrated for the building of a new Holy Trinity church; according to the accounts of old inhabitants, which the house itself reports, a church had formerly stood on that spot, consecrated by the venerable Alexis of Carpathian Rus¹.

The canonical side of the restoration was settled by two decisions of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. On 28 December 2004 the Synod, having considered the report of Ioann, Archbishop of Hust and Vynohradiv, blessed the opening of a Holy Trinity men's monastery at Vilkhivtsi³. On 5 January 2013, on the report of Mark, Archbishop of Hust and Vynohradiv, the Synod blessed the changing of the house's status from a men's monastery to a women's one⁴.

By 2010 the house had a Holy Trinity church and a house church of All Saints of the Land of Rus¹. Among the shrines of the monastery are particles of the relics of the Kyiv-Pechersk saints².
