History:

The church complex of the Pochaiv Icon of the Mother of God in Kovel began with an anniversary: in 1992, for the thousandth year since the founding of the Volodymyr-Volynskyi eparchy, the city decided to raise a memorial chapel2. The site for it, in the area of the Kovel railway stations, was consecrated in 1994, but the economic crisis of the nineties halted the building2.

A church community was founded at the unfinished chapel-church in 1998, and on 19 November 2000 the church in honour of the Pochaiv Icon was consecrated2. The parish grew, and in 2011 a new three-part, three-domed church in honour of St Sergius of Radonezh was laid down beside the chapel: the first Paschal liturgy was celebrated in it on 5 May 2013, and the great consecration took place on 8 May 20252.

Three priests now serve in the complex2. A sisterhood and a brotherhood operate in the community, caring for the churches and the ground around them; a Sunday school for children and young people works there, and the parish charitable project "Sylni, bo razom!" helps the wounded2. The complex stands on Veteraniv Street1.

The community broadcasts its services on a channel of its own, opened on 9 November 20103. The broadcasts here are daily and dense: the early and the late Liturgy, vespers, matins, the all-night vigil, the parastas, and in the fast the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts3. The akathists stand apart, among them the akathist before the Pochaiv Icon of the Mother of God3. Beside the services the channel also carries short reflections on the sermon and, for instance, the diary of the parish children's camp3.
