Community in Honour of the Archangel Gabriel (Kyiv)

The community in honour of the Archangel Gabriel is a Kyiv parish of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - so it names itself on its own site, and its services are celebrated in Ukrainian¹. The community now serves in the church of St Peter Mohyla¹.

The church traces its history to 2003, when a house-church community began to form around the spiritual and educational television channel Hlas¹. On 19 January 2007, at Theophany, the staff of the television channel gathered for the first Liturgy - after the rite of the lesser consecration of the church - and on 25 July of the same year the altar was consecrated by the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church^{1, 2}.

The church is on the fifth floor of a multi-storey office building near the Zvirynetska metro station¹. Inside it is styled after an old church of Orthodox Greece: ornament on the arched vaults, wooden ceiling beams, decorative columns, plaster mouldings on the icons, and in the dome an image of the twelve apostles¹. The community keeps its patronal feast on the Synaxis of the Archangel Gabriel and a lesser patronal feast in spring, and a chamber choir accompanies every festal service¹.

The parish broadcasts its services on the channel Viche³. The Sunday Liturgy comes out there every week - the one heading that holds without a break year after year³. Beside it the channel has run the daily "Apostolic Instructions" - readings and expositions of the apostolic epistles - the cycles "The Songs of David" and "The Reading of the Canon", and long studio conversations with clergy and scholars, filmed together with the civic organisation Sofiiske Bratstvo with the support of the Renovabis foundation³.
