Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra of the Dormition has been filming and showing itself since the end of the 1990s: the monastery's video material on its channel begins in 1999². The first film of the monastery studio was "Many Are Called, but Few Are Chosen", on the life of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of that time; the monastery itself calls that work a symbolic blessing for the founding of the first professional studio of Orthodox cinema in Ukraine².

The Lavra's official site is lavra.ua, and it is that site which gives the monastery its full name: the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra of the Dormition, a men's monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church¹. The video channel was opened on 17 November 2011, with the blessing of the abbot of the monastery^{1, 2}.

The backbone of the channel is the daily video broadcasting of services: more than three quarters of all titles begin with that very word². The services come in two daily waves, a morning one and a late afternoon one, and the channel keeps to that round without a break: a gap longer than two days does not occur here². Beside the liturgies and the all-night vigils the channel shows hierarchical services, akathists, magnifications, molebens and processions².

Away from the broadcasts the monastery keeps collections of its own: documentaries, features filmed by the labours of the brethren about the monastery's life today, a cycle on the Kyiv Caves Paterikon, talks, and the abbot's words of counsel before feasts and the longer fasts².
