St Macarius' Church (Kyiv)
Scheduled
St Macarius' Church stands in Kyiv, on Stara Poliana Street, in the Tatarka neighbourhood2. It is consecrated in honour of the Hieromartyr Macarius, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Rus; the parish itself calls its church the only one in Kyiv with that dedication and notes that the first Liturgy was celebrated in it on 13 December 18973.
The community has given the history of the church a whole section of its website, and inside it separate pages on the Hieromartyr Macarius himself and on "The History of the Parish in Persons"1. Beside them stand the Sunday school, theological courses, the schedule of services and the sermons, which the parish publishes in writing, week after week1.
Works of mercy have a heading of their own here. Again and again the parish gathers clothing and footwear and hands them to the patients of Kyiv Municipal Psychiatric Hospital No. 1 named after I. P. Pavlov, and it reports every such delivery on its website1.
The church broadcasts its services on a channel of its own, opened on 13 January 20163. It labels them all alike — simply "Service", with no name of the office — so one can tell them apart only by the day and the hour: the broadcasts gather into two daily clusters, a morning one and a late afternoon one, and run thickest on Saturday and Sunday3. The longest recordings fall in Holy Week: the Paschal night service here ran for almost twelve hours3.
